Simple data use, stated plainly.
This site collects only what is needed to respond to an inquiry and operate the website.
What happens to your information
Contact submissions
When you use a contact form, this site prepares a message in your email app. Your email provider sends the message normally; the form contents are not submitted to a website database. Your information is not added to a marketing list or sold.
Hosting and form processing
This site is hosted by Vercel. Contact messages are handled by your email app and email provider. Guide pages also request font files from Google Fonts, which may receive standard request information such as an IP address and browser details.
Analytics
This site uses Vercel Web Analytics to collect anonymized, cookieless page-view data such as the page visited, referrer, approximate region, device type, and browser. I use it to understand which public pages are useful. Trips and concept pages are excluded.
Optional trip maps
Viewing a Cascades map slide or opening the Field Guide’s Map tab loads Google Maps. Google receives map and route requests, including standard request information such as your IP address and browser details. This site does not request your live location. See theGoogle Privacy Policyand our map terms.
Trip-map preferences are saved in your browser’s local storage. Shared links contain selected public stop IDs and map preferences, not the trip access code or a private home address. Anyone with a link can read those preferences. Clear this site’s browser storage to delete saved preferences. Reset itinerary restores the defaults.
Retention and requests
Inquiry information is retained only as long as it is useful for the related business conversation or required for legitimate recordkeeping. For a privacy request, use the contact form and say what information you want reviewed, corrected, or deleted.
